Shower Cleaning Hacks

Nothing is more relaxing than starting or ending your day with a hot, steamy shower. Unless you step inside only to realize you can’t possibly get clean in a dirty shower. Mold on the shower curtain, water stains on the faucet, grimy bath mat—enough is enough! It’s time to get to cleaning. It may be an unpleasant job, but you’ll be glad you did it when you’re soaking in your clean tub.

Whether you have a shower door or a curtain, it’s not as hard to clean as you may think:

• Wait until after you finish up your shower to clean the door. The warm water will loosen any grime, making it easier to clean.
• Use a sponge with cleaning product or a Magic Eraser to wipe down the door.
• Use a squeegee to remove all the remaining water on the door to make it streak-free!
• If you have a shower curtain, the liner can be put in the washer (run it on a gentle cycle). However, do NOT put it in the dryer as it will likely melt.

The grout on the walls of your shower can trap dirt and grime. There are plenty of tile cleaners out there that you can spray, let sit, and remove if you choose that route. For a more natural, less toxic route, try making your own grout cleaner! Simply mix equal parts Dawn (or other dish soap) and vinegar. Spray generously around the shower and leave on for an hour or so. Wipe down or spray off the concoction to reveal a shiny, clean shower.

You can also use plain vinegar to clean your shower head and remove the mineral deposits. Secure a plastic bag filled with vinegar over the shower head with a rubber band. Leave it on for about an hour to remove the deposits.

The inner shower mat can be cleaned with bleach and a brush. Be very careful when using the bleach to not discolor your fabric curtain. Shower mats, like the shower curtain liner can be washed in the washer on a gentle hot cycle.
